ObjectWeb & Eclipse potential collaboration

Gerard,

As you suggest it I forward to ObjectWeb's list college and architecture
the emails I exchange with Eclipse' people about opportunity to do things
together.

I think it would be great but I won't go further without help from members.

Any advice anybody ? Anybody interested?

Thanks for your help.

I sincerely hope we can collaborate.
I have polled the staff of Eclipse and all are either on vacation or have
prior engagements..
(the staff is very small also)
So we do not Eclipse Staff who can attend.
However, there are many companies who will be there like Red Hat, SuSE,
MontaVista, TimeSys.

Once you get back lets figure how to proceed.
cheers.....

Hi..
Thanks for your note.
Yes we are very  interested in exploring the areas of working together.
I believe there are multiple levels where we might  collaborate.
1) Eclipse Platform and tools.
By way of this note I want to introduce John Wiegand. John is the Eclipse
Platform Project Management Committee (PMC) Leader  John leads this team
that is responsible for the building the Eclipse Open Source Platform and
framework for tool integration and interoperability. It is this team that
delivers the open source technology for Eclipse that other companies use to
build branded and supported products. The Eclipse Project is a
collaborative software development project dedicated to providing a robust,
full-featured, commercial-quality, and freely available industry platform
for the development of highly integrated tools.
2) There might also be an opportunity in the area of academic / research
and advanced technology development.
I want to introduce you to Brian Barry. Brian is the Eclipse Technology
Project Management Committee (PMC) Leader.. The Eclipse Technology Project
is an open software research and development project, which encapsulates
three related activity streams, each of which is based on or uses the
Eclipse Platform and/or Eclipse Tools:
1.        academic research projects and other exploratory investigations
("Research Stream");
2.        development of educational materials, teaching aids and
courseware ("Education Stream");
incubation of small-scale, innovative platform and tools projects
("Incubators Stream").
3) there also might be a way to cross pollinate the open source projects by
having you all join the Eclipse Board if this is appropriate.
As the Eclipse Chairperson, I am the contact on this opportunity.

cheers....

Hello,

I am representing ObjectWeb (www.objectweb.org) an international consortium
devoted to Open Source middleware based on Open Standards (Corba, J2EE,
etc)
We are organised on the same model as W3C and are hosted in Europe by the
same organiztion i.e. INRIA

Some of our components such as JOnAS (http://jonas.objectweb.org/) have
already plugins for Eclipse (JOPE http://forge.objectweb.org/projects/jope/
) and most of the developpers forming ObjectWeb Community (around 300
people) are using Eclipse for their developments.

As Vice President of this Consortium I think it may be a good idea to work
with Eclipse's consortium to find some synergies between projects.
First of all is it feasible ? And then would it interest you ?

Best regards,
JPL.
