A new version of the Fractal Specification is available, as well as a new "Getting Started" document. We think these new documents are much clearer that the previous ones. So if you did'nt read the old documents, or if you read them but did not understand anything, we advise you to read these new documents!

one year after the release of the 1.0 version of the Fractal Specification, and after several experiments in implementing and using this specification (Julia, ProActive, Think; Fractal RMI, Fractal GUI, Speedo, CLIF, ...), we think it is appropriate to update the specification, in order to take into account the feedback of the previous experiments. A proposed draft "revised" specification is available on the fractal web site (http://fractal.objectweb.org/specification/index.html). It is in fact a completely new document, which tries to solve the problems of the current specification (unclear differences between BindingController and UserBindingController, type system not symetric for client and server interface, possible confusions due to the presence of two models - general and concrete, and, in general, lack of clarity and precision). This version also shows clearly the modularity and extensibility of the model and, in particular, the fact that it is not tied to Java. The rationale (section 1.1) and the Appendix A are not finished yet. The Fractal web site has also been updated, as well as the existing tutorials, to reflect the changes in v2.0 of the specification. A new Fractal tutorial is also available, which serves as a "Getting Started with Fractal" document (http://fractal.objectweb.org/tutorial/index.html). However the code base has *not* been updated yet: this will be done only after discussion of the proposed draft specification. Comments are welcome, in particular if you would like something to be changed or added to the specification: this revision process is a good opportunity to do so. The Fractal Team
