RE: [ObjectWeb architecture] Enhydra and Jonas

Hi !

"Enhydra demos" are a list of about 10 application with sources showing
different aspects of the usage of the Enhydra application framework. They are
currently part of Enhydra 5.1 download.

Enhydra 6.0 will finally split the Enhydra application framework from the
Enhydra/Tomcat3.x server. The goal is to use the latest Tomcat (4.1.27 in
Jonas) and EAF to make Enhydra applications running.

EAF consists of the "superservlet" URL-class-mapping and of an abstract API
(Java interfaces for application configuration, logging, session management,
XMLC integration,...) and implementation of these interfaces on top of
Servlet 2.3 API and some upward compatibility code for existing Enhydra
applications.

So Enhydra is NOT an alternative to Tomcat / Jetty or whatever but will
install EAF under these servers.

Yes, XMLC based applications are already running under Tomcat and Jetty
(under Jonas also of course) with or without EAF.

The Enhydra Kelp IDE plugins could integrate Kelly / JOPE or be used side by
side to them, we will have to discuss that !

Enhydra 5.1 integrated Apache SOAP for webservices, 6.0 will rely on Axis
integration in Jonas.

So currently it looks like Enhydra 6.0 will be Jonas + EAF + XMLC + mod_jk +
Kelp plugins + lots of samples + EJOSA templates + Octopus + DODS (for simple
O/R mapping as an alternative to full blown EJBs) ... ONE easy to install and
easy to use package to get programmers started with a first application as
quickly as possible. And of course this way all existing Enhydra applications
(and there are a lot of them out there !) could be running under the Tomcat
web container in Jonas.

Hope this explains some things a little bit better...

Greetings.

Alfred

Thanks Alfred for this good news.
We are interested by your feedback on Enhydra with JOnAS, compared to the
previous Enhydra version of Enhydra;
I cc jonas-team because I think this of interest for all JOnAS developpers.
What are Enhydra demos?

Can you explain more the architecture of Enhydra 6.0.
Does it uses tomcat, and provide some way to use XMLC with tomcat, or Enhydra
is an alternative to tomcat?
Do you think some stuff can be common between Kelp and Kelly (Jbuilder plugin
for JOnAS) and JOPE (Elipse plugin for JOnAS)?
Do you plan to support Web Services with Enhydra?

Greetings.
