I cannot say for sure, but OpenOffice is working with OASIS and many 
others to define a standard office file format in XML. This has the 
support of other projects as well. Ultimately, the question might not be 
OpenOffice per se, but the OASIS file format, which will be just happen 
to be the default file format for OpenOffice 2.0, from what I understand.
