Last month we informed you about the 7th ITEA Call for Projects, which
opens on the 19th of January 2004 with a Project Outline preparation
meeting in Paris. Proposals (Project Outlines) must be submitted by 2
April 2004.

If you plan to participate, now's the time to visit our website
www.itea-office.org and start defining the general direction and scope
of your project, look for potential consortium partners, and investigate
local funding possibilities.

INNOVATIVE INDUSTRY-DRIVEN PROJECTS

It's our goal to reinforce the position of European industries through
the labelling of innovative, pre-competitive, industry-driven R&D
projects in software for software-intensive systems that will pave the
way for quick implementation practical products, systems and services.
That's why - in evaluating projects, which is based upon the
state-of-the-art in the domain - innovation as well as dissemination and
future exploitation of the, results (with a special focus on their
impact on standards) are all important criteria.

ITEA projects are bottom-up, industry-driven initiatives, involving
complementary R&D from at least two companies in two different countries
(according to EUREKA rules). However, the number of industrial partners,
both in terms of technology development and lead users, is usually higher.
Projects involve between 40 and 300 person-years and typically last up
to three years.
Consortia should include partners from the three main
categories: large industries, SMEs and universities/ research
institutes.

TECHNICAL CONTENT

The research areas outlined in the ITEA Rainbow Book and in the ITEA
Technology Roadmap on Software Intensive Systems form the basis for the
technical content of each Call. In addition, we have published on our
website a list of themes that are particularly relevant to this Call (see
www.itea-office.org, select "PROJECT CALLS - Technical content").

PREPARATION OF PROJECT OUTLINES AND PARTNER SEARCH

In order to help you prepare a Project Outline, locate potential partners,
join existing consortia, and find out more about the specifics of the Call,
we're organising a Project Outline preparation meeting on 19 and 20 January
2004 in Paris. The provisional programme is on our website, where you can
express an interest in participating by filling in a registration form.

If you're looking for partners to start a new project, have an idea for a
project but still need partners, or if you want to join a consortium, you
can also visit the Partner Search area on our website (www.itea-office.org,
select "PROJECT CALLS - Partner search"). This on-line service is open to
all, which means that it can greatly facilitate the formation of consortia
and the definition of project proposals. However, when using this medium for
partner search, please be aware of the open nature of a public website.

In the meantime, we're here to provide help and offer advice. You can get in
touch by email with our programme coordinators Riccardo Capobianchi
(capobianchi@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx) and Erik Rodenbach (rodenbach@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx)
or call +31 40 247 5590.
