Hi John,I'm not sure whether you got followups to this thread (I'm currently on the train ;-)
Would you like to help us on the matter of "open Java" ? If so, let me know and I'll give you write permission to the wiki. Cheers, At 03:56 08/04/2004, John Saunders wrote:

Yes. I believe the historical arc of "Openness", Java, "Open Java", etc.will be much longer than a few years and this event will be just one of many along that arc. Who knows what will come after Java? No, not disaster. :-) There are more forces at work than the two players in the headlines this week. The "Open" community as well as its organizations like ObjectWeb are together a force with a historical arc of its own. This community does not exist at the pleasure of Sun and M$. It exists as a separate and independent force. This event marks an opportunity for the community to think about itself as an independent force separate from whatever technology might have its attention at any one time. We in ObjectWeb and the "Open" community can remember our original spirit and decide that the "gifts" that we hope the vendors will give to us someday are things we are free to make ourselves. Feeling philosophical today. :-) -- jrs
