If I understand your request correctly, I'd recommend:
- Chapter 19 ("Open Source") of ESR's book "The Art of Unix
Programming", relatively short and technical. It is available
online at http://www.faqs.org/docs/artu/opensourcechapter.html
- "Producing Open Source Software" by Karl Fogel. From the book's
website: "Producing Open Source Software is a book about the
human side of open source development. It describes how
successful projects operate, the expectations of users and
developers, and the culture of free software." It is also
