Enhydra 3 supports automatic reloading of classes for XMLC templates.

for an explanation.

As far as I know, only XMLC template classes can be reloaded at
runtime.  Any changes to the code for PO/BO/DO classes requires
recompilation and redeployment.  You don't need to bring down
Multiserver, though.  You can shut down any individual application from
the Multiserver Administation Console.

Perhaps my knowledge is incomplete, however.
