in our workflow engine project Shark (http://shark.objectweb.org), we use 
JaWE from our client administration application to show
the current status of processes executed by engine, and if you download 
sources, you can find this example of JaWE's usage in
SharkSwingClient module.

There has been discussion on JaWE's mailing list on capturing process 
definitions using JaWE API, and here you can find some example
code (I don't know if it works with current CVS version, but if not, you 
should make only some minor changes):
Also, one member of shark mailing list has written the code using JaWE to 
capture the picture of processes running on shark, and
sent it recently on shark's mailing list.
