I think you are missing the point. JaWE is not a workflow engine, but just 
XPDL editor, and it is intended to create XPDLs and not
to execute them.
If you are looking for open source workflow engine, you can look at our 
workflow engine called shark (http://shark.objectweb.org),
or some other engines like WfMOpen, Obe and OfBiz.
