Open-Source Enterprise Service Bus
==================================
* 8 ObjectWeb members proposed in June to start up an
ESB initiative. A
formal kick-off meeting will be held in Paris on
October 4, 2004.
* The ESB initiative is designed as a user-driven
process that brings
together technology providers, end users and
integrators. Altogether, they
work on defining business requirements for ESB
platforms and on creating a
toolbox of open-source components targeting such
solutions. The final goal
of this process is to provide vendors with the
high-quality open-source
bricks they need to build their commercial ESB
offering.
* ObjectWeb is actually not new in the business of
integration. Our
community has a proven track record of success in
delivering components and
tools for integration and Service Oriented
Architectures / Event Driven
Architectures, including: JOnAS (Java(tm) application
server currently
undergoing certification of compliance with J2EE(tm)
1.4); Bonita, Enhydra
Shark, JaWE (WfMC workflow engines and tools); JORAM
(message-oriented
middleware with JMS and SOAP connectors); JOTM
(distributed transaction
manager); XQuark (XML/XQuery data integration and
transformation engine);
Enhydra Octopus (ETL tool). In addition, a BPEL engine
has recently been
accepted as an ObjectWeb project.
* Christophe Ney, executive director, ObjectWeb:
"ObjectWeb leads
open-source projects targeting infrastructure software
and drives major
community achievements, such as the delivery of JOnAS,
one of the leading
non-commercial J2EE application servers, the start up
of the Web Tools
Platform under the Eclipse umbrella and the
development of open-source ESB
solutions."
JOnAS is Red Hat Application Server
===================================
* Red Hat announced at LinuxWorld San Francisco the
availability of Red Hat
Application Server, actually a specific packaging of
JOnAS. * JOnAS is
currently undergoing certification for compatibility with J2EE
1.4. This compatibility test suite has been made
available to ObjectWeb by
Sun in the framework of a specific scholarship for
non-profit projects. *
Jean-Pierre Laisné, ObjectWeb chairman: "customers can now benefit
from
the open source components ObjectWeb delivers such as
JOnAS, JORAM, and JOTM
to build enterprise-class offerings. Together, Red Hat
and ObjectWeb show
the unique strength that pure-play open source
solutions can provide to the
enterprise."
ObjectWebCon05 - 4th ObjectWeb Annual Conference
================================================
* Born as a grassroot, community gathering 4 years
ago, the annual ObjectWeb
conference now targets enterprise users of
infrastructure software and
middleware. The recent achievements of the ObjectWeb
consortium generates
interest from decision makers in mainstream ISVs,
integrators and user
companies. * New
formula, with tutorial tracks, five keynote sessions and an
exhibition
floor, for hype-free, focused training and information
about cutting-edge
open-source technologies for software infrastructure,
both from technical
and business perspectives. * Call for
proposals - deadline September 15th, 2004 - http://wiki.objectweb.org/ObjectWebCon05/CallForProposals.jsp * For
sponsoring opportunities, contact
ObjectCon05-contact@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx * Venue:
Lyon, France, January 17-19, 2005. Web site: http://www.objectweb.org/ObjectWebCon05.

SVN Support Now Available on the ObjectWeb Forge
------------------------------------------------
Subversion (1.0.6) is now available on the ObjectWeb Forge in addition to
CVS.
Subversion is a version control system that is a compelling replacement
for CVS
in the open-source community. Anonymous and developer accesses are
provided
(through svn and svn+ssh protocols) just like CVS. The repository can
also be
browsed online thanks to ViewCVS. For more information about Subversion,
please
see the Subversion Web site.

individuals). Ask support from
the Executive Committee should you need any
assistance. * Go to:

...Get Involved
---------------
* Anybody can subscribe to the community@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
mailing-list to
discuss on general matters. If you want to get
involved in a project, you
can send a mail to the corresponding mailing-list

an account in the Forge
and ask the project owners to grant you write
permissions.
...Submit a Project
-------------------
* All members can submit a (software development)
project to ObjectWeb. The
project is reviewed by the College of Architects
before approval. The main
criteria for approval are: relevance with regards to
ObjectWeb's scope,
technical sustainability and quality of the code
base.
...Give Feedback
----------------
* Gathering information in an open-source community is a hard task. You can
help us in many ways: giving feedback, use cases, information on OW
integrators, appearances in the media, hot news, web sites related to
middleware to insert in the web rings and more.
